The Story of Us Blog Tour
Oh, friends. So happy to have you stop by today as we’ve got something extra special to share! We are honored to be chosen by Mr. Tacorian to take part in a blog tour this week in celebration of The Story of Us by Tacori. We were sent a copy of this charming must-have engagement journal and invited to share our own engagement story. What fun!

This summer we will be ringing in our 9th wedding anniversary! Boy, does time fly! And yes, we are already plotting our dinner in a field coastal party on Aleah’s parents’ island, complete with incredible food, dancing, sweet details, and a charming ambiance for the big one next year!

Our engagement story is filled with fun memories and perhaps a few early planning ideas before Mr. Valley officially popped the question!

Having been together for four years during university {we got together Aleah’s senior year in high school}, Nick cleverly crafted the perfect proposal, asking Aleah’s father for her hand at her parents’ island home under the Peter Pan Bridge. They both remember it fondly. It was the perfect setting. Of course, her dad said yes, with open arms! Aleah’s dad and Nick’s mom helped Nick scour Seattle to find the perfect platinum sparkler, which he found at Carroll’s Fine Jewelry, the oldest family-operated jeweler in Seattle steeped in history.

We had been planning a trip in the summer before the senior year of university to Oahu with friends and Nick saw this as the perfect opportunity to pop the question to his beach-loving bride-to-be.

Knowing that Aleah picks up on even the littlest things, Nick cleverly had Aleah’s older brother carry the precious ring wrapped in delicate gold tissue and nestled in the velvet bed of an emerald green box through security at the airport in case Nick was asked for a secondary screening. Our friends all managed to set off the metal detectors by leaving belts on and goodies in their pockets, allowing for Aleah’s brother to breeze through without incident or notice.

About mid-way through our week long trip on Oahu Nick felt the timing was perfect so he asked Aleah to head for a stroll as all of the friends prepped, after a day of sun and surf, for dinner in Waikiki. Of course! Aleah said. So off to the beach in Kailua we went. Nick waited to cautiously for the right time to propose and passersby took notice of what was going on, stopping to smile. Guessing that this was going to continue, Nick found a moment in between sunset watchers and got down on one knee, remembering the story of how we met, how much fun we have together and how much we love each other. Of course, Aleah was in such an excited state that some of that was perhaps jumbled. But the answer was a huge YES! {Where it all happened:}

And so commenced the start of a fun new chapter. Phone calls were made to our excited parents eagerly awaiting to officially announce our engagement and our group of friends headed to Duke’s for a celebratory dinner. Planning our wedding together was incredible.

We’d known for some time that we’d tie the knot at Aleah’s parents’ primary residence on a gorgeous little island in Admiralty Inlet in Washington State, so the details were all icing. From our incredible band to the hand-picked local brews served, the amazing Pacific Northwest-inspired food we served our guests to the flowers and ambiance down to the details like calligraphy and napkin adornments, we enjoyed working together and with our families to plan out the absolute perfect celebration that was so us. We wouldn’t change a thing!

Always remember during the planning process that your engagement period is a time to enjoy and savor together. Have fun with the process and be open.
